I attended the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and graduated with honors, earning a BSc in Biomedical Engineering. My Master research was performed with prof. dr. E.W. (Bert) Meijer, and focused on the synthesis of multivalent enzyme-based molecules and their self-assembly mechanisms. Throughout my Master program, I performed an internship at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with prof. dr. David A. Tirrell. At Caltech, I designed artificial extracellular matrix proteins with non-canonical amino acids to create soft hydrogels, and studied their response to mechanical stress. After obtaining my MSc degree with honorable mention, I started my doctoral research under supervision of prof. dr. E.W. (Bert) Meijer and prof. dr. Maarten Merkx in May 2013. Currently, I am working at the interface of biochemistry and supramolecular chemistry. My aim is to obtain a molecular-level understanding of the self-assembly properties, dynamic behavior, and multivalent interaction mechanisms of nature-inspired molecules.
